This historic steel center-pivot swing bridge was build on site in 1924. This bridge crosses the MIAMI CANAL from Okeechobee Road in Hialeah, southwest to Curtiss Parkway in Miami
Springs. It is the first major bridge that connected the banks of the Miami Canal in the Hialeah-Miami Springs area; it remains a main transportation artery in continuous use until the present time. The original
fabric remains although the structure was modified in 1941 for increased traffic load. The bridge is maintained in the closed position due to no river traffic. GLENN H. CURTISS and JAMES H. BRIGHT, the founders and
developers of Hialeah and Miami Springs, were instrumental in the establishment of this historic bridge by loaning Dade County money toward its construction. DESIGNATED MIAMI SPRINGS HISTORIC SITE IN MARCH 1991.
